Praise for staff who saved fox from drowning in Eastbourne

Staff at Sovereign Harbour managed to save a fox from drowning at around midnight last night (November, 5). After noticing the fox in the water in the middle of the night staff were able to grab the animal and get it out of the water. They brought the fox into their offices and began warming it up before calling East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service (WRAS). Karen Francis, the out of hour on-call rescuer who took the call, said: "The staff were brilliant and very caring, they did everything right. "The fox was clearly very cold and to be honest I didn't think it was going to survive." After taking him back to their Casualty Centre at Whitesmith he was dried off and warmed up before being put to bed for the night. Karen was surprised by what she saw the next morning: "When I got to the centre this morning, I was amazed and really pleased to see the fox was up and about and looking so much more alert. "If it had not been for the quick actions of the security staff this fox would have drowned, they saved his life." Officials said the fox is expected to return back to his home range after the WRAS's Care Team keep a close eye on him for 24 hours.
