Prison for wanted man who stole from good Samaritan in Worthing

A man who stole money and documents from a householder in Worthing, after asking to use his victim's bathroom, has been jailed. Graham Keeley, 38, of no fixed address, knocked on the door of a home in Clifton Road, Worthing, on New Year's Day, before asking to use the occupier's bathroom. Keeley was granted permission, but the householder later discovered that cash and personal documents had been stolen from his property. The following Friday (3 January) officers, on foot patrol in Worthing's Brighton Road, spotted Keeley who was wanted for recall to prison, and for shoplifting offences. Police said, at this point, Keeley pretended to be unwell in order to prevent his arrest. He then lunged at one of the officers, causing minor injuries, according to the force. After his arrest took place, Keeley was charged with a string of offences: assault by beating of an emergency worker, receiving stolen goods, two counts of theft from a shop, and attempted theft from the Sainsbury's in Lyons Farm in December. In an appearance before Brighton Magistrates on January 4, he was sentenced to ten weeks' prison, and ordered to pay a compensation order of £475 together with court costs of £85. A restraining order against the victim was also granted. More Radio is continuously dedicated to providing a quality news service on-air and online, reporting local stories that matter across Sussex.
