Protect Your Bike At Police Registration Event

Sussex Police are holding a bike registration event tomorrow (May 28) to help police identify the owners of recovered lost or stolen bikes.

They're inviting the public to bring their bikes along to their Bicycle Registration Event in Burgess Hill on Saturday the 29th of May between 1000hrs and 1400hrs in St Johns Park.

Police said each frame has a unique serial number that is stamped on to the frame by the manufacturer.

That number is added to a database, along with the owner's contact details.

If the bike is lost or stolen and recovered by police, it helps them easily identify the owner.

Police will also be giving safety and security advice for people locking up their bikes in public places.

A police spokesperson said:

"Obviously with the current focus on global warming, the current fuel prices and the rise in popularity of e-bikes we want people to feel safe taking their bikes out and about this summer."

"The event will also be attended by our Sussex Safer Road Partnership colleagues who will be providing road safety advice and guidance. As this weekend is the first of the half term we are keen to attract as many people as possible who might want to use their bikes in, hopefully, good weather."
