Protest Planned Against Southern Water Sewage Discharges In Sussex Waters

A protest against Southern Water's "continued dumping of sewage into our sea" will be held this Sunday in Bognor.

People wishing to join, will find the protestors on Aldwick Beach by the boat pound, in collaboration with the Bluetits of Bognor this Sunday, August 28th at 12pm.

The protest will include a chance to sign an open letter to Nick Gibb and a press photo will be taken of the protestors that will be sent to local papers.

It comes after yet another video was posted online, dated a week ago, of what appears to be raw sewage being pumped into the sea, this time in Bexhill.

Clare Franklin, leader of the Bluetits of Bognor, says:

"The Bluetits of Bognor have a 1200 strong online membership and are a regular feature of the local beaches. Our group is proudly inclusive, supporting people to meet throughout the year to swim, talk and spend time in nature, things we know are good for us physically and are essential for mental well-being too.

"Cold water swimming has become a lifeline for many of our members enjoying the benefits of cold water and company on a daily basis.

"We encourage our members to educate themselves and to keep themselves safe; as a result our members are aware of the danger Southern Water poses to our coastline and to their health.

"Our members are sick of having to choose between risking their physical well-being by swimming in contaminated water, or their mental well-being by keeping out.

"We are fed up with excuses and demand that something be done to stop this incredibly damaging practice."

The protest details can be found on the public Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1987358924795163/
