Plans for a new pavilion at Shoreham’s Buckingham Park have gone on display.

Adur District Council is displaying the plans the regeneration scheme at the Shoreham Centre, in Pond Road, Shoreham, as part of a public consultation on its plans.

Changes include a replacement café, new toilets including accessible toilets  and changing place facilities, new paths and landscaping, and a new sporting ground and clubhouse.

The new café, toilets and clubhouse will be part of the new Buckingham Pavilion building, with plans showing a single-storey wood-panelled building in the south-west corner of Buckingham Park.

Leader of the council Neil Parkin (Con, Hillside) also announced at a full council meeting on Thursday, February 22, that the council would be picking up the £1.65million bill for a new sports ground and facilities at the park, due to a lack of other investors for that part of the scheme.

Cabinet Member for the environment and leisure Emma Evans (Con, Buckingham) said the facilities would be an improvement on the current pavilion, described in the plans as ‘outdated’.

The consultation plans are only preliminary, and might see changes before a submission to the planning committee, which the council hopes to do between March and May this year.

According to the timeline in the plans, the council hopes to find a contractor by the summer and start work by autumn this year, finishing the scheme in the Summer of 2025.

The boards are up in the Shoreham Centre until February 28, but details can be found on the council’s website at https://www.adur-worthing.gov.uk/buckingham-park-pavilion
