Public Consultation On Green Spaces In Worthing - Have Your Say

The 'green corridor' - the area of green space made up of Homefield Park, Beach House Park and Denton Gardens

Worthing residents are being asked to share their ideas for how three landmark open spaces to the east of the town could be enhanced.

The consultation launched yesterday (Monday 14th) and offers a 'range of options' for what's being called the 'green corridor' - the area of green space made up of Homefield Park, Beach House Park and Denton Gardens which connect to the popular East Beach on Worthing seafront.

The consultation sets out a number of ideas to enhance the  ‘green corridor’ to the sea, which includes Homefield Park

Adur and Worthing Councils say young families are the focus of the changes as they 'represent the town’s largest growing demographic and are regular users of the parks and seafront'.

Among the ideas  for more family-friendly facilities are:

  • A new water play zone to complement the popular splash pad at East Beach
  • An extended children’s play area and an adventure golf course.
  • Creating new wellness spaces for all ages are also being proposed. This includes a dedicated area for playing board games such as chess and a sensory garden to take advantage of the tranquillity and natural environment of the parks.
  • A Dog Adventure Park which has been installed at Hazelwick Park in Lancing - a similar facility could be considered for one of these parks.

Denton Gardens is one of the green spaces included in the proposals.

Cllr Edward Crouch, Worthing Borough Council’s Executive Member for Digital & Environmental Services, said:

“This is an exciting opportunity to reimagine our parks and think about the needs of future generations. We’ve drawn up some initial ideas and now want to hear from our communities about what they think and what else they would like to see.

“Our vision is to create a green corridor to the sea that is filled with a range of activities to support our residents to enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of being outdoors, and which places Worthing firmly on the map as a visitor destination for all ages”

The proposals are available to view on the council’s website, along with a questionnaire to capture feedback, which will only take 5-10 minutes to complete: https://www.adur-worthing.gov.uk/connecting-our-parks-to-the-sea/

Residents, businesses and visitors to the town will have until midnight on Tuesday 19 April 2022 to respond.
