Public Transport For Pride Sunday

Public transport providers in Sussex have issued information about today's (Sunday August 6) rail and bus services.

TRAINS

Although yesterday's rail services were deeply affected by the trade union ASLEF calling for an overtime ban by drivers, resulting in rail operator GTR withdrawing all services to and from Brighton, there is no railway industrial action scheduled for today.

Action resumes, however, on Monday.

Today, passengers intending to use Brighton Station are being advised to leave at least an hour to get to the station from any Pride festival site or the seafront.

For safety, on the trains and in the station, the operating company said no glass bottles or containers are permitted.

There is to be a rainbow-coloured queuing system at today's busiest times, as follows:

  • The Green queue is for trains on the East Coastway; that is towards Lewes, Seaford and Eastbourne
  • The Purple queue is for trains on the West Coastway, heading towards Shoreham, Worthing, Chichester and beyond
  • The Blue queue is for the Brighton Main Line, where trains go towards London, Haywards Heath and Gatwick Airport.

Queues might be long, the rail operators say.

BUSES

This information has been provided to More Radio by Brighton and Hove buses.

From 11:00 until 22:30 today, Sunday, the A23 Preston Road will be closed in both directions for the festival in Preston Park.

During this time routes 5 & 5A and Metrobus services 271 and 272 will need to divert via Stanford Avenue, Beaconsfield Villas and Preston Drove in both directions.

The Sea Life Centre roundabout and St James's Street will remain closed until 08:00 on Monday 7 August.

Eastbound

All eastbound services that use St James's Street and the A259 will need to divert via Edward Street from the Old Steine.

All coastal services from Edward Street will turn right down Upper Rock Gardens and Lower Rock Gardens to resume normal route on the A259. The first stop to be served on the A259 will be Bedford Street.

Westbound

All westbound coastal services will serve Bedford Street on the A259 and turn right onto Lower Rock Gardens and Upper Rock Gardens.

Services will turn left onto Edward Street where they will resume normal route at the Old Steine.

Metrobus 271 and 272 - towards Royal Sussex County Hospital

Service will operate as normal to the Old Steine bus stop where services will turn round the Old Steine using the South West Corner to then head northbound to turn right onto Edward Street.

Services will then turn right onto Upper Rock Gardens and Lower Rock Gardens to the seafront to resume their normal route to the hospital. Services out of Brighton are unaffected.
