Record Donations For Lewes's Three Foodbanks

Food for families and individuals in need, from Lewes

A group organising joint collections for all three of Lewes's foodbanks said this weekend's donations broke all the records.

Leaders reported members of six of the town's bonfire societies, and many other people, helped bring-in a total of 5,661 items of food and household essentials — the previous total was said to be 4,790.

Organisers said the collections took place outside three supermarkets for fourteen hours, including time spent in the weekend's strikingly fierce torrential rain and storm-force winds.

A total of 228 people also included members of seven sports clubs, six faith groups, three bands, two parents' associations, chefs, a cinema, yoga class, book group, a choir and all the individual helpers, secret shoppers, loaders, drivers, and a liaison team.

The group said the quantity of food, to go to families and individuals in need, was so great that it's impossible to show the total in one picture.

In a posting to social media, they photographed half of what was delivered to one foodbank, making it one sixth of the total delivered to Fitzjohns, Landport and Mallings foodbanks.
