A clock in Horsham town centre has been refurbished and will be renamed the Coronation Clock.

During a meeting of the full council, Tony Hogben, cabinet member for Horsham Town said the timepiece attached to Sharps, in West Street, would become ‘a permanent tribute’ to the King.

Looking at plans for the Coronation weekend celebrations, Mr Hogben reported that bins, bollards and lampposts in the Carfax had been freshly painted and acts had been confirmed for the four stages which will be set up in the town centre.

The Capitol theatre will be screening the  entire Coronation live and for free, followed by a showing of Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation from 1953.

The market will run as usual, while Piries Place, West Street and Market Square will play host to mini stages celebrating the work of several community groups.

Horsham Museum, in the Causeway, will hold its first garden party, with family craft workshops running across the weekend.

Mr Hogben told the meeting that the council had handed out £4,600 in Coronation grants to various parish and neighbourhood councils to help them pay for their own celebrations.
