The Met Office has named today's weather system bringing strong winds and rain to Sussex as Storm Henk.
A yellow weather warning remains in place for the whole of the More Radio area until late this afternoon, as winds expected to exceed 60 mph sweep across the coastline and other exposed areas, accompanied by some heavy rain.
More than a dozen flood alerts were in place across Sussex this morning, as rain continued to fall on already soaked ground, unable to absorb any more water.
The RNLI volunteer team at Rye additionally posted a report of members' shock at the sight of children playing near large waves caused by the strong winds.
The team at the Rye Harbour lifeboat station said:
"The storms are battering our coastline on the south coast.
"The waves are treacherous and they have the power to sweep people off their feet and yet some people think they are invincible including these youngsters captured at Hastings yesterday by Brian Bailey."
"Had the waves hit them at that speed they would have been swept out to sea, and families could have had to face tragedy so early in the year.
"Nature is not a power to be trifled with."
