Royal Blood's Mike Kerr Takes On 4x4x48 Challenge For Sussex Hospice

Royal Blood's Mike Kerr is taking on an endurance challenge this weekend for Chestnut Tree House children's hospice.

Mike Kerr, one half of the Brighton-based rock duo, Royal Blood, is taking on the 4x4x48 Chellenge.

It means the singer and bassist will be running four miles every four hours for 48 hours, starting at 4am on Saturday (March 6). 

Started by retired Navy SEAL and American endurance athlete, David Goggins, in 2020, the 4x4x48 Challenge is free to enter and people from around the world will be taking part and raising money for different charities.

Everyone will start and complete the challenge at the same time (8pm PST, 5 March, which is 4am GMT, 6 March), exercising for around 45-60 minutes of each four-hour leg for 48 hours.

Explaining why he’s taking part and supporting Chestnut Tree House, Mike Kerr said:

“I got into running during lockdown and when I heard about this endurance challenge, I thought ‘why not’?! I like the idea that many other people around the world will be taking part at the same time and raising money for lots of worthwhile causes.

“Chestnut Tree House is my local children’s hospice, and while they need support all the time, they’ve been hit hard by the pandemic so I’m hoping to raise some funds for the vital work they do. The care they provide for children and families is so important. I’m honoured to be able to help in this small way.”

Chestnut Tree House provides care and support to around 300 children and young people with life-shortening conditions and their families across Sussex and South East Hampshire, both at the hospice and in families’ own homes.

The cost of providing this service is over £4.6 million per year, yet only a small percentage of the cost of care is funded by central government. The charity relies on the generosity and support of the community to continue providing vital care to local children and families.
