Second Man Arrested After Cyclist Hit By Ball Bearing In St Leonards

Police have arrested a second man after a cyclist was seriously injured by a ball bearing in St Leonards.

Officers are investigating the incident in which the 65-year-old man was hit while cycling along Bexhill Road around 6.20pm on Friday 10 July.

Police say he suffered a head injury and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

The following day, on Saturday 11 July, a 37-year-old man contacted police to report he had been hit with a pellet from a BB gun, fired by a man in a passing vehicle.

Officers say this happened around 12.30pm on Mount Pleasant Road in Hastings, and did not result in serious injury.

A 26-year-old man from St Leonards was arrested on July 12 on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent; attempting to cause grievous bodily harm; possession of a Class A drug; possession of a Class B drug; possession of an imitation firearm in a public place; and possession of a weapon for the discharge of a noxious liquid / gas / electrical incapacitation device. He was released on conditional bail until August 8 while enquiries continue.

A 23-year-old man from Maidstone was arrested on Sunday (July 26) on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He has been released on conditional bail until August 21 while enquiries continue.
