Fatal Collision Near Bolney As Car Drives Wrong Way Down A23

Part of the A23 was closed for over 10 hours yesterday (July 10) after a car drove southbound towards oncoming traffic near Bolney.

It happened at around 5.15am between a black Nissan Qashqai and an articulated lorry.

The driver, a 23-year-old man from Cuckfield, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The southbound and northbound carriageways were closed for more than 10-hours between Pease Pottage and Warninglid to allow for police, fire and ambulance services to attend to the driver and carry out investigation and recovery work.

Investigating officers are particularly keen to speak with the occupants of a dark coloured Ford who stopped at the scene but left prior to police arrival.

Anyone who has information or dashcam footage which could help officers with their investigation is asked to report it police by emailing collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk quoting Operation Riverhill.
