UPDATE: Driver Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries In Serious Incident On A24

A driver has suffered life-threatening injuries in an incident on the A24 northbound, between Long Furlong and the Washington turn-off, this morning (June 29).

Police received reports at 6.10am of a car leaving the A24 Findon Road and colliding with a tree.

The driver of the car was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information which could help officers with their investigation is asked to report it to police by emailing collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk or call 101 quoting Operation Cranbourne." 

The collision has caused tailbacks up to the Grove Lodge Roundabout near Worthing and on the A27 through Lancing and Arundel, with one of two lanes closed for several hours.

10.50am: The road has now been cleared with both lanes now open.

The incident is affecting bus routes 62 and 69 and the Metro bus number 23 has been diverted.

Sussex Police are asking people to find alternative routes.
