Shoppers in Lewes are able to benefit from free parking today (Saturday).
Lewes District Council (LDC) is offering free day-time parking in 14 of its car parks. It does not apply to on-street parking.
The scheme is for Small Business Saturday, which aims to support local businesses by attracting visitors to independent shops and eateries.
Lewes Chamber of Commerce President, Clare Crouch, said:
“This year has been a horrible year for everyone, especially the small independent shops and businesses. We encourage Lewes residents and visitors from outside the town to come into Lewes and find refreshing ideas that they may not have seen in their own home-town shops.
“This gesture by LDC is very much appreciated, and we hope that it will give everyone planning their Christmas shopping yet another great reason to do it here in Lewes! We just ask that everyone follows social distancing rules and guidelines that the shops have in place.
“We also realise that some shoppers may not be comfortable or able to physically visit Lewes, which is why we encourage them to check out shops websites as well as get involved with the ‘Shop Independent for Christmas’ Campaign.”
