Southern Rail among train operators offering Flybe customers free transport

The so-called 'victims' of collapsed regional airline, Flybe, have been offered free transport from National Rail services. Southern Rail is among train operating companies who have agreed to honour the booking confirmation and tickets of Flybe customers, to complete their journeys until next Wednesday (March, 11). Staff members, on the presentation of a Flybe ID Pass or other identifying means, will also be offered free transport if they find themselves stranded away from their 'home' airport. The airline, which handled a great deal of UK domestic flights, went into administration on Wednesday (March, 4). As a result, all of their flights were cancelled and customers were told not to travel to the airport unless they had already arranged an alternative flight. Southern Rail said customers with booking confirmations or tickets, are permitted to use National Rail services to complete their journey free of charge between any two National Rail served stations in Great Britain, appropriate to the journey booked with Flybe. The train operator said that the small number of international customers who may have made alternative travel arrangements back to the UK via ferries or Eurostar, can use stations close to ports or other international interchanges (e.g. Dover Priory, Holyhead, Harwich, London St Pancras International etc.) Southern Rail said in all instances, customers and staff will be required to demonstrate that they were a Flybe customer or member of staff. Suitable forms of proof may be: a booking confirmation, plane ticket, eTicket or boarding pass, payroll slip, lanyard, company ID or badge, or company uniform.
