A 54-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run in West Sussex where a driver yelled at a victim, who needed hospital treatment for his head injury, before reportedly making off.

According to police, the collision happened in Worthing Road in Southwater last Thursday (12 August).

Between 7pm and 7.30pm, a white VW Tiguan vehicle was driven erratically near the Hen and Chicken Pub, and mounted the kerb hitting a 23-year-old pedestrian.

Officers said the driver of the Tiguan then got out of the vehicle to shout at the victim, before getting back into his vehicle and driving towards Southwater Village.

The victim suffered a cut to his head and was taken to hospital for medical care.

Police also believe the vehicle had earlier mounted the opposite grass verge, narrowly missing members of the public.

A man was later held on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving and failing to stop after a road collision.

He has been released on bail until 9 September.

Detective Constable Steve Smethurst said:

“We would like to hear from anyone who saw the incidents or has any dash cam or CCTV footage of them to come forward.”

Reports can be made online, or by calling 101 quoting serial 1171 of 12/08.
