St Leonards Attempted Robbery: Man Slashed As he Helps Fake Accident Victim

A man who got out of his car to help what he thought was the victim of an accident, has suffered slash wounds to his hands as accomplices attempted to rob him of his car.

It happened at around 10.40pm last Thursday (Feb 3) when a man driving along Branksome Road got out of his car to help the supposed victim of an accident.

A person was lying in the middle of the road with a crash helmet on next to a moped.

As he attempted to help the apparent victim, two others wearing crash helmets appeared from a nearby turning and the person on the ground got up.

One of the others demanded the driver hand over his car keys and when he refused he was slashed on the hand.

At this point another vehicle turned into the road and the three left on mopeds in the direction of Filsham Road.

Officers investigating the attempted robbery are appealing for any witnesses to come forward, including anyone who may have captured any relevant CCTV, doorbell or dash cam footage from the area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police online or by calling 101 quoting serial 1497 of 03/02. Alternatively, members of the public can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
