St Leonards carpenter jailed for drugs offences after incriminating photos found on his iPhone

A man has been jailed for seven years after officers found drugs and incriminating photographic evidence in the vehicle he was driving. Officers, prompted by a smell, carried out a search on Glen Hodgins' car after stopping it on the A21 at Flimwell in February 2018. This resulted in the discovery of three large vacuum bags filled with a total of 3kg of cannabis and the 32-year-old's arrest. A black iPhone was seized from the driver's door pocket and a Samsung mobile phone was found at his home address of Ashdown Close, St Leonards. Police also found £1,600 in cash at the address. Officers said they discovered 'extensive messaging' relating to the distribution and sale of cocaine on the mobile phones. This led to Hodgins being found guilty of being concerned in the supply of cocaine, despite no Class A drugs being found in his vehicle. Hodgins was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment for being concerned in the supply of a Class A drug (cocaine) at Brighton Crown Court last Tuesday (January, 14). The carpenter pleaded guilty to possessing a Class B drug (cannabis) and was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment to run concurrently. He was also handed 12 months' imprisonment, to run concurrently, for possessing criminal property (the £1,600 cash). Chief Inspector Sarah Godley said: "This lengthy sentence positively reflects the individual's involvement in drug dealing and the funds he obtained. "It also shows that a person does not necessarily need to be in possession of a substance to be convicted - in this case, cocaine - and that evidence found on devices like mobile phones can be sufficient. "I commend the officers for all their hard work in this investigation, and for bringing an offender to justice. We will continue to target drug dealers as part of our efforts to make our communities a safer place for all."
