Storm Barra To Make Waves In East Sussex Tomorrow

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning as Storm Barra approaches from the east bringing high winds to south coastal towns and rain and snow in the north.

Named by Met Éireann for the level of impacts expected for the Republic of Ireland, Storm Barra will arrive from the west on Tuesday morning, picking up speed with gusts of over 50mph expected in East Sussex. Exposed coastal locations could see guts reaching up to 70mph.

Snow is expected in Northern England and Scotland, which could see 2-5cm of the stuff in the warning area and up to 10am in the Southern Uplands and Highlands.

In East Sussex we can expect rain at lunchtime today with a low chance of more rain this afternoon.

Rain is also expected tomorrow afternoon as gusts reach their peak speed.

The Met Office warns of:

  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
  • Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
  • It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
