Four areas in Sussex are now subject to red flood warnings as Storm Henk moves across England, north of the More Radio area, the Environment Agency said 2pm today (January 2nd).

The red warning is the second most series type of flood warning, indicating that flooding is not merely possible, but either happening now or is highly likely.

The Environment Agency says that anyone in a red flood warning area should take measures to protect themselves and their loved ones.

Staff suggest moving people, pets and valuables to a safe place such as higher ground or upper floors.

They advise during off gas and electricity if it is safe to do so, and putting flood protection equipment in place.

In East Sussex, Alfriston was reported as flooding, early this afternoon.

The flooded area is as a result of the Cuckmere River being high and rising, with flooding now also reported to affect fields and rural roads in the Hellingly and Horsebridge areas.

Flooding is also expected in Station road, Church Lane and Church Road in Hellingly.

Some roads such as Mill Road and Church Road might become impassable.

In West Sussex, waters are high and rising in the River Adur.

The A281 at Mock Bridge near Shermanbury is expected to be affected, with nearby properties, gardens and fields also covered in water.

Barcombe Mills north of Lewes has the River Ouse flowing through it, and the waters here are also high and rising, the Environment Agency said.

Barcombe Mills Road and Anchor Lane are expected to be impassable, and the Anchor Inn was expected to flood from mid-day today.
