Four pupils at Robertsbridge Community College have been "permanently excluded", the school said, after a year 11 student claimed that he'd taken ecstasy during school hours. The information was revealed in a letter to parents from the school's head, issued on Monday (January 20). Zak Vice stated that the pupil confessed his use of ecstacy during the school day after it "became apparent" that he'd taken an illicit substance. He and his family were accompanied to A&E by members of staff. Parents were told that police had been contacted, and the student who admitted taking the drug had suffered no ill effects. In his letter, which the head also gave to More Radio, Mr. Vice said: "This is clearly a very serious matter, and the college has acted swiftly to get to the bottom of the situation. "We have a strict behaviour policy and expect very high standards from our students, who are acutely aware that misuse of drugs is not only extremely dangerous, but completely unacceptable. "Action is therefore being taken in line with the college's behaviour policy, and this includes four students that will be permanently excluded as a result." Mr. Vice additionally outlined in separate communications to this newsroom a number of initiatives that Robertsbridge Community College has taken, to inform its students about illicit drugs and the law surrounding them. These included attendance of a theatre production illustrating the methods of so-called "County Lines" drugs gangs; a mentoring and in-house counselling service; random bag searches; and police collaboration including a knife-detecting arch at the student entrance. The school also said it has informed students' families that specialist sniffer dogs will be brought onto site in the future.
