Sussex flood warnings set to continue

A number of official flood warnings have been active in Sussex this afternoon (Monday, 30). The Environment Agency said high tides and strengthening winds were increasing the flood risk in many coastal areas this afternoon and tomorrow (Tuesday, 1). Among areas affected were Pevensey seafront, Camber and Rye Harbour, coastal Seaford, Shoreham Harbour, Littlehampton west of the Arun, and the shores of both Pagham Harbour and Chichester Harbour. An Environment Agency (EA) spokesperson said: "The unsettled weather (strong South Westerly Force 6 winds) increases tide table values Tuesday with a surge." The EA indicated that flooding is likely to be at its most severe for a few hours either side of high tide tomorrow. A spokesperson added: "From Tuesday evening, tides will return to more normal levels and the risk of flooding becomes much less likely. "We continue to monitor tide levels and forecasts."
