Sussex heatwave "hotter than Ibiza" this week

Forecasters have said from today (Wednesday, 22) that Sussex could expect to be at least as hot, if not hotter, than some popular Mediterranean resorts until the weekend. According to officials, coastal Sussex could see temperatures going up to 21 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday, while Ibiza stays a degree or two colder. Britain's Met Office said the reason for Sussex becoming warm is a large area of high pressure over northern Europe which was blocking colder air from approaching our shores. Meanwhile, Ibiza was experiencing a set of mid-week storms. Britain's official forecasters added the very dry and warm weather might not last very long, with a risk of showers "largely across the south of the UK" on Sunday. Recent strong winds coupled with mostly dry weather have also led to a high risk of fire in woodlands and grassy areas, according to Met Office staff. Sussex Police have issued specific guidance about travel despite the warm weather, urging people to avoid popular beauty spots and seafronts and the coronavirus lockdown continues.
