Sussex Midwife Answers Questions Over Covid-19 Vaccine, Fertility And Pregnancy

A video has been released by the Sussex Health and Care Partnership addressing misinformation around the Covid-19 vaccine, pregnancy and fertility.

Emma Chambers, Associate Director of Midwifery at ESHT (East Sussex Healthcare Trust) features in the video answering some of the most common questions about having the vaccine if you're pregnant or thinking of having a baby.

It follows misinformation circulating that women who are pregnant, or trying to get pregnant, should not have the vaccine.

Emma said the information is false. At the beginning of the vaccine roll-out the NHS did not vaccinate women who were pregnant because they were not included in the first clinical trials.

Since then around the world many pregnant have wanted to have the vaccine and been vaccinated without any problem.

Now the recommendation is that pregnant women who are eligible are given the vaccine because the risks of getting Covid-19 when pregnant are far higher than the risk of being vaccinated.

Medical experts from the The Royal College of Midwives, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists also said there is “no evidence to suggest that Covid-19 vaccines will affect fertility”.

Emma said:

"Working in a hospital I've just seen how devastating Covid can be.

"Getting vaccinated is the best thing we can do to protect ourselves and get life back to normal, that's why I've had the vaccine.

"And that's why I encourage everyone else to get the vaccine as soon as it's their turn."
