An official weather warning about high winds is in force for all Sussex throughout Friday (August 21).
According to Britain's official forecasters, the Met Office, strong winds beginning from 4am could lead to some travel disruption, and perhaps temporary breaks in power supplies.
Weather experts believe that Friday could also mean that Sussex's shoreline will be affected by large waves and extra spray, possibly leading to limited, localised flooding on the coast.
One of the most sensitive forecasting models for wind speeds, the "Icon" forecast from the German bureau Deutscher Wetterdienst, indicates coastal wind speeds could see gusts of around 45mph.
Maps show that the strong winds are from Storm Ellen, which has already brought strong winds and flooding to part of the west of England, Wales and north-western areas.
Ellen emerged from a decayed tropical cyclone which moved north-eastwards across the North Atlantic Ocean.
