Teenage boy admits string of robberies in Brighton

A 17-year-old boy has admitted to committing a number of robberies in the Brighton area last year. The teenager, who cannot be named due to legal reasons, pleaded guilty to three robberies, four attempted robberies, one count of theft and possession of cannabis at Hove Crown Court last Thursday (February, 20). Officers said it's related to a number of offences that took place within hours in Dyke Road between November 5 and 6 last year. Police said he approached three victims in the street and threatened them with a knife, demanding cash from them and taking two of them to ATMs to withdraw funds, according to police. A further four offences then took place between November 14 and 15. Officers said he approached a couple at a bus stop on Eastern Road and made demands for cash and assaulted them, before going on to do the same to another two people later that evening. DC Georgina Lake said: "These were terrifying attacks on members of the public who should have been able to go about their business without being threatened for their money. "We hope the defendant takes this moment to reflect on his unacceptable behaviour". The defendant has been remanded in youth detention and is due to be sentenced on March 19.
