Teenage boys arrested following hoax firearm report at St Leonards party

Police have arrested two teenage boys as part of an investigation into a hoax 999 call about a firearm in St Leonards. Officers said a call handler received a report of a firearm being produced during a party in the town on Friday night (November, 8). Police said they reacted swiftly, with armed officers deployed to an address, but on arrival nothing was found. A pair of local boys, both aged 14, were arrested on suspicion of wasting police time and possessing cannabis, a Class B drug, with intent to supply. Officers said the incident has 'highlighted the dangers of abusing the emergency system and tying up key resources that may have been genuinely needed elsewhere'. Inspector Olivia Carroll, of Hastings police, said: "The 999 system exists to report incidents where there are fears for someone's safety and well-being, or a crime is in progress. "Abusing its use not only risks blocking genuine calls needing immediate life-saving responses, but is completely anti-social and inevitably has cost implications." Both suspects have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
