A man has reportedly assaulted a girl aged 15 on a street in Polegate, East Sussex.

According to police, between 6pm and 7pm last Friday (March 19), a man unknown to his victim, and smelling strongly of alcohol, approached her at the eastern end of a street known as Black Path, close to the skate park.

He then grabbed her arm, and her back.

However, the attacker is said to have been 'spooked' by a passing vehicle.

Then, when he was confronted, he ran off.

Police are seeking a man they described as being white, and about 5'7" tall and of stocky build.

He was wearing a single training shoe, and wore a dark-coloured hoodie.

Officers added that he reeked of Port, and appeared to be intoxicated.

Police are seeking a man who has reportedly attacked a teenage girl on a quiet residential street in Polegate.

The 15-year-old victim was on a road called "Black Path" when the man assaulted her last Friday evening.

Her attacker smelt strongly of drink, and was wearing only one shoe.

Officers say a passing vehicle 'spooked' him, before he ran off.

It is being investigated as an isolated incident.

Investigating officer, PC Peter Clarke, said:

“This was an extremely traumatic incident for the 15-year-old victim to experience, and we are determined to catch the person responsible and get justice for not only the victim but also the local community.

“Despite an emergency response by local Polegate officers, unfortunately the suspect was not located on the evening and all police lines of enquiry are being fully exhausted.

"I am now requesting the help of local residents to check any footage they may have and if you were in the area and saw anything suspicious, please call 101 or report it online, quoting serial 1299 of 19/03.”
