Teenage girl grabbed by man in Eastbourne Old Town area

Police are investigating after a 13-year-old girl was grabbed by a man in the Old Town area who tried to make her go with him. Officers said a passing motorist stopped as if ready to intervene in the incident between 5pm and 6pm on Friday (November, 8), in the vicinity of East Dean Road and Green Street. Police said the driver who stopped resumed his journey after the suspect let go of the teenage girl when she screamed, before running to a friend's house nearby to seek safety. She was later reunited with her parents and, although shaken, was otherwise unharmed by the incident, according to police. The suspect is described as a man of Middle Eastern, mixed race appearance, in his early 30s, 5'10" tall, of a skinny build and with a stubbly face. He was wearing a black hooded jacket and black trousers. Detectives would like to speak to the motorist who pulled up to help, and also anyone else who saw what happened or who may have relevant CCTV or dash-cam footage. Police would also like to hear from anyone who may recently have been approached in similar circumstances in the Old Town, despite the incident being treated as isolated. Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting reference number 1186 of 08/11.
