Teenagers arrested in connection with double stabbing in Worthing released on bail

Two young teenagers arrested in connection with a double stabbing of two other teenagers in Worthing have been released on bail, police have confirmed. Officers have stepped up patrols in the local area where the attacks took place on Tuesday afternoon (October, 1). Emergency services were initially called to South Farm Road around 4pm, following reports of a 16-year-old suffering a minor stab wound, before getting reports of a second stabbing of another 16-year-old in the car park of Goring railway station, just after 5pm. Police said the first victim has since been discharged, while the second remains in a 'stable' condition in hospital after suffering multiple stab wounds. A 13-year-old and 14-year-old boy were detained on suspicion of grievous bodily harm following an area search, assisted by the police helicopter and British Transport Police. According to officers, they have since been released on police bail with 'strict conditions' until October 28. Chief Inspector for Adur and Worthing, Sarah Leadbetter, said: "Following on from the assaults on Tuesday, we have increased our patrols within the local area and are working closely with our partners to reassure our local communities and young people. "This investigation forms part of a wider issue involving a small number of young people who are committing acts of violence against other young people in the area. "This behaviour is completely unacceptable and we are working with partners to ensure that those people responsible are held to account. "I would urge anyone who may have witnessed these two incidents or noticed anything suspicious to report this information to us without delay as our investigation is ongoing." Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting reference number 892 of 01/10. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
