Thousands Of Appointments Available In Sussex For Covid Vaccine

Sussex health and care leaders are urging everyone eligible to get their autumn booster now and get vital protection from Covid, with thousands of appointments available to book ahead of winter.

People in the eligible groups for a Covid vaccination are able to book via the National Booking Service or through an invite from a local service.

More than 22,000 people of the most vulnerable to the risks from catching Covid have had their vaccination in the first two weeks of the programme – and there are now appointments available for the coming weeks for all those eligible.

With Covid, flu and other respiratory illnesses in circulation and infection rates on the rise, health and care leaders in Sussex are urging people to get their jabs now to ensure maximum protection throughout winter.

Those people eligible to receive the Covid vaccine include those aged 65 and over, frontline health and social care workers, those deemed at risk because a weakened immune system, people with a learning disability or who are pregnant. People in these groups are also eligible for a free flu vaccination ahead of winter. 

Appointments can be booked directly with GP-led local vaccination service following an invitation from a local team, on the National Booking Service or by calling 119 (which includes a translations services if needed).

Dr Dinesh Sinha, Chief Medical Officer for NHS Sussex, said: 

“Our teams have been busy setting up their clinics and arranging sessions across more than 80 vaccination services in Sussex so that people can receive this important protection ahead of winter.

“We know that with winter comes with increased infection levels and so it is vital that those who are due their covid booster or flu jab come forward as soon as possible to ensure they have that protection for themselves and their loved ones this winter. 

“If you are eligible, we strongly urge you to join those across the country who have already had theirs”.
