Three schools in East Sussex will be forced to close again today due to lack of water supply caused by a power failure during Storm Eunice last Friday (Feb 18).
Little Common School, Bexhill-on-sea, St Richard's Catholic College, Bexhill-on-sea, Beckley Church of England Primary School in Rye, Hamsey Community Primary School, Cooksbridge and Bodiam Church of England Primary School will all be closed.
In the latest update on the school's website, Beckley C of E said:
"Many of our Beckley families have been without power since mid-morning on Friday and in some homes, power has still not been restored. Although power returned for a few hours on Sunday night, it was lost again and the UK Power Network Agency are not expecting it to be restored until the afternoon of Tuesday 22nd Feb. As a result, the school will be closed on Monday and Tuesday. We hope to return to school, as normal on Wednesday 23rd February.
"Around the school site, Storm Eunice has caused damage to a covered walkway on the edge of the playground.
"More significantly, a large tree at the entrance to the school field, by the bottom of the slope was also a victim to the storm. This has completely blown over."
An update posted this morning (Feb 23) at 7.20am on the Little Common School website advised:
"Unfortunately the school remains closed as water has not been fully restored. We hope we will be able to open tomorrow but there is no guaranteed day or time. We will continue to update this notice as new information is received.
"Children have online learning available through DB Primary. Please call the school office on 01424 842297 after 8.30am if you need support with this."
