Two Arrests After Care Home Resident Found Disoriented & Cold In Worthing Street

Worthing Hospital

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of neglect, and one of them also on suspicion of fraud, in connection with the discovery of a woman in her 70s — a care-home resident — "cold and confused" on a street in Worthing.

The pair, both women, and aged 20 and 58, were detained by police investigating what led to the woman being discovered at 10.45pm on April 10 by a couple in the town — described as "kind, good Samaritans" — who realised the victim was in distress.

They then took her to Worthing Hospital's accident and emergency department.

Officers said it was only the following morning that they received a report that a resident, matching the woman's description, was missing from a care home the previous night.

On being asked, police said they would not yet identify the care home concerned.

Today, May 12, officers began an appeal to identify the members of the public who brought the victim to hospital.

Police said the two helpful people, who drove the vulnerable woman to receive care, left without giving their details.

Officers said they wanted to thank the couple, and also speak to them as "valuable" witnesses in a criminal investigation.

Detective Constable Kat Wilkins said:

"We do emphasise we seek to talk to them solely as valuable witnesses.

"They are not the subjects of any investigation."

This CCTV image is of the Good Samaritans police wish to thank, and make enquiries of as potential witnesses.

They are not the subjects of any criminal investigation.
