Two arrests have been made after reports of women and children being approached by men in Crawley over the last week.

Officers investigating the reports said they do not believe that all of the incidents are linked.

A 43-year-old man from Crawley was arrested in connection with an incident involving a woman jogging in Haslett Avenue on Monday (May,25).

The victim was approached by a man who put both arms around her waist.

The man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on a female, and released on bail pending further enquiries.

A 63-year-old man from Crawley was arrested shortly after an incident last Thursday (May, 21), where a man reportedly tried to grab a woman jogging in Grattons park.

He was released without charge, but officers say the investigation is ongoing and they would like anyone with information to get in touch.

A man has been identified in connection with two further reports, that were made after two women reported being approached by a man at Woodfield Road playing fields, on Tuesday (May, 26) evening.

Two children were reportedly approached by a man of a similar description around the same time, but it was not reported until the following day.

Officers said enquiries are ongoing.

Chief Inspector Shane Baker said:

"We'd like to reassure the Crawley community that we are taking these reports seriously and are following all reasonable lines of enquiry to find those responsible.

"Our investigations are progressing and we would like to thank the members of the public for reporting these incidents to us, and thank you to those who have passed on information following our appeal.

"We continue to have an increased police presence in the area and urge people to contact us if they have any information or concerns we can help with."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police online or call 101.
