Two men arrested after car mounts pavement and collides with pedestrian in Brighton

Two men have been arrested after a vehicle drove onto a pavement in Brighton towards pedestrians, one of whom was struck. Police said a grey Honda Civic mounted the pavement in Kings Road in the early hours of Sunday, November 10. After colliding with a pedestrian, the car hit the terrace outside The Ship Hotel, where three men made off from the vehicle at about 5.20am. A 23-year-old man from Croydon has been detained on suspicion of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, aggravated vehicle taking, assault, drunk driving, driving without a licence and failing to stop after a road accident. A man aged 26 from Sutton, Surrey was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking but has since been released under investigation. Detective James Botting said: "We believe there has been an altercation between a group of men in Kings Road. "Some of them have got in a parked vehicle which has then been driven at speed onto the pavement at two men, one of whom was struck but he ran off. "Other pedestrians had to jump out of the way of the vehicle but were not hurt. "The victim has not come forward." The incident is not being treated as terror-related. Anyone with information is asked to contact 101 quoting serial 218 of 10/11.
