Walking Festival Coming To Brighton & Hove This Summer

Walkers on South Downs Way

The first Brighton & Hove Walking Festival will be held from June 24 until July 9.

The city council is celebrating the health and wellbeing benefits of going for a good walk by encouraging as many people as possible to join any of the 51 walks being organised at the end of the month.

All walks are free, guided and open to everyone, regardless of age, fitness and ability.

There are historical tours, nature walks or mindful experiences and walks for people who just want to get out and about, meet new people or learn something new. Many of the walks are perfect for beginners looking to head outdoors and enjoy the city, its sights, sounds and relaxing green spaces.

There council is asking anyone who would like to take part to book in advance. You can do this from June 1.

The launch event will be held outside St Peter’s Church, in Valley Gardens, between 11am and 5pm on Saturday, June 24.

It’s a chance to chat with some of the organisations supporting the festival and leading the walks, get more information about walking in the local area, and join in with some fun family friendly activities.

Walking is a great way of improving your physical and mental health and wellbeing. And it’s free.

Regular physical activity can help prevent and manage over 20 chronic conditions and diseases. This includes some cancers, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and depression.

Studies show that you can see the positive effects of small amounts of physical activity.
