Warning After Lighter On Windowsill Sparks House Fire In Midhurst

Firefighters from Midhurst attended a fire at a home in the town, believed to have been caused by refracted light from a window.

It's believed that the fire started when sunlight from the window was refracted onto a lighter left on the windowsill - this, in turn, caused it to catch alight - taking with it the curtains and bedding nearby and leaving scorch marks up the walls.

We're being reminded to be careful what we leave near windows and to make sure that flammable objects are kept away from potential ignition sources.
