There are warnings of long queues at household waste recycling sites across East and West Sussex.
Brighton and Hove City Council and East Sussex County Council are asking that residents please only visit sites if the journey is essential after an increase in demand.
West Sussex County Council is also highlighting its opening times, as queues often form an hour before sites are due to open.
The authority said a visit to the tip should not be used as a reason to leave the house and should only be considered essential if waste is causing a risk of injury or harm to health.
Residents are urged to use kerbside collections where possible, and investigate alternative options for some materials such as garden waste collections and subsidised compost bins.

Our household waste recycling sites (‘tips’) are currently open for essential visits. If you need to visit, please be ready to queue as sites are very busy. You must also socially distance. Thank you for being patient and respecting our staff. Abuse will not be tolerated pic.twitter.com/Bh6cQl31PC
