The whole of Sussex is subject to an official weather warning about high winds on Saturday (November, 2). Gusts of up to 70mph on the coast are expected throughout tomorrow, as the warning remains in force from 4am to 6pm. Met Office forecasters said their "yellow warning" means the public should be aware of the potential for damage and injury that strong winds can cause. The government's official weather bureau predicted that, during what staff called a "very windy day", there is a small chance of danger from flying debris as well as from large waves, with beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties. A small chance of damage to inland properties is also predicted, along with some longer journey times. Describing Saturday's weather pattern, Met Office staff said: "An area of low pressure is expected to bring a spell of strong winds and heavy rain to southern England and south Wales on Saturday. "Gusts of 55-60 mph are likely inland with gusts of 60-70 mph around and just inland of south and west facing coasts and over hills. "Winds are expected to slowly ease from the west during the afternoon." More Radio's own forecasts using data from a number of weather authorities showed the highest winds across Sussex will be from a south-westerly direction, around mid-day.
