West Sussex Children & Family Centres Reopen Today, June 21

West Sussex County Council — Children and Family Centres

Children and Family Centres across West Sussex are beginning to reopen from today, Monday, 21 June.

West Sussex County Council explained that the centres have been closed for general use because of the Covid-19 pandemic — but restrictions are now easing.

A full list of the buildings reopening this month is at the foot of this article, but some opening hours have changed.

The advice is to check the county council's website for information.

The 17 centres provide services including:

  • Drop-ins for information, advice, and guidance
  • Support for families in crisis
  • Toy Libraries offering free rental of children's toys

Health services, such as maternity support, will continue to be delivered from Children and Family Centres as they have done throughout the pandemic.

However, the need to prioritise work in the community means that, for the time being, group activities such as stay and play are not coming back for now.

The County Council said it was working with partners to start group work again when it is agreed it is safe to do so — officials pledged an update as soon as possible.

At the same time as the reopening, but separate from it, the County Council's Early Help Service Redesign proposals were making progress.

A ten-week public consultation on these proposals recently closed, and the Children and Young People's Services Scrutiny Committee will discuss the results on 30 June, 2021.
