West Sussex Woman On Mission To Tackle Mental Health And Prevent Loneliness

A woman from West Sussex has set up Facebook Group, The Social Circle, to help people make connections and combat isolation.

In June 2021 Holly Tritton set up the two non-profit social groups - one for between 20- and 30-year-olds and one for over 40s.

Her aim was for people to form connections and bonds through common ground and interests and attend events together.

The former group now has 2,100 members and the latter now has 1,200 - both, she says, are growing daily. She just held her biggest event to date with 110 people attending.

"Both these groups combined show the sheer need and demand for a service like this within the West Sussex area.

"My aim has always been to combat loneliness and isolation and these groups are just the start of how I hope to go about doing this.

"I do not come from a marketing background or a background which benefits me in terms of business strategy however my ambition is to turn The Social Circle into an official registered charity, where I can truly fight the loneliness crisis that is seen not only in West Sussex but over the whole nation.

"My aim is to fill the gap in the mental health sector, and that gap is prevention support. Through conversation, company, companionship and socialising, people can talk, people can speak and through those conversations I hope it can help prevent anyone reaching rock bottom with their mental health.

"To register The Social Circle as an official charity I need three trustees to become a part of my journey."

If you think you can help Holly with her mission and would like to speak to her about becoming a trustee, please email htritton@thesocialcircle.org.uk
