A large search and rescue operation was underway at lunchtime today (December 10) concentrating on sea and land surrounding Worthing.
H.M. Coastguard said its staff were co-ordinating the search following a report of clothing found on the beach.
The information came to rescue workers just before 11am.
According to coastguards, officers from Sussex Police have been sent as well as Coastguard rescue teams from Shoreham, Littlehampton and Newhaven.
They've been joined by H.M. Coastguard’s search and rescue helicopter from Lydd.
The Littlehampton lifeboat has also been sent to the scene.
At 1.30pm, a coastguard spokesperson described the incident as "ongoing", and was unable to give further information.
