Witness appeal after woman is raped on Worthing seafront

Police are investigating after a young woman was raped on the seafront in Worthing last night (Sunday, 8). The 26-year-old victim was walking along New Parade off the A259 in East Worthing, near the Splash Point building site, shortly before 10.30pm. Police said the woman was approached by a man who initially asked for directions, but then took her to the beach and raped her. The man then left the area on foot, according to police. The force said the victim sought help from a passer-by and she is currently receiving support from specialist officers. DS Ed Bohnet, of the West Sussex Safeguarding Investigations Unit, said: "This appears to be an isolated incident, and not part of any pattern. "It is essential that we identify and trace this man so if you were in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious, or if you have any other information that might help, please contact us online or by calling 101, quoting Operation Neston."
