Woman Found Dead At Bexhill Home Identified

A woman who was found dead at her home in Bexhill on Saturday (February 6) has been identified as Carol Smith.

Police said the 75-year-old's provisional cause of death was an injury consistent with gunshot wounds.

Ambulance paramedics and Police discovered her body at a property in Watermill Lane, at around 1.45am.

An inquest will be formally opened on Thursday (February 11), and then adjourned for further enquiries.

A 78-year-old man who was also in the house, and who police say was known to her, was arrested and taken to hospital with a serious injury.

He remains in a stable condition.

DI Duncan Elliott said:

“This is being treated as a tragic isolated incident and we are not looking for anyone else in connection to it.

"Carol's family have released a photo of her and our thoughts are with them at this incredibly difficult time and we would ask the public to respect their privacy."
