A woman has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after a major search and rescue operation in Peacehaven last night (Tuesday).
The coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Lydd, teams from Newhaven and Shoreham, and the RNLI lifeboat from Brighton were deployed just before 6pm to search for a person in trouble in the water.
Members of the public pulled the casualty from the sea off South Coast Road.
The woman was initially treated by paramedics and was then taken by SECAmb to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
A Sussex Police spokesperson said:
"Emergency services responded to a report of a woman who had been pulled from the sea off South Coast Road, Peacehaven, at about 6pm on Tuesday (28 July).
The woman was initially treated by paramedics at the scene and was then taken by ambulance in a serious condition to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.
There are currently no further details available."
