A world-class archer from Sussex will compete at the National Tour Final next month, vying for a place at next year's Olympics.
Brighton & Hove's Bryony Pitman will join a selection of the UK’s finest archers at Wollaton Hall in Nottingham on September 2 and 3, for the National Tour Finals, where six champions will be crowned in the disciplines of recurve, compound and barebow archery.
The weekend of archery will decide which of our home-grown, world-leading athletes will be included in the GB squad for next year’s Olympic Games in Paris.
Forty archers will compete in three 'bow styles' categories, with Bryony taking part in the 'recurve competitions' on September 3. Six National Tour champions will be crowned at the conclusion of the event.
Bryony was part of the bronze-winning team at the 2019 World Archery Championships and went on to make her debut appearance at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020, finishing ninth both individually and in the women’s team.
The 26-year-old then went on to win individual gold at the World Cup in Antalya, along with Mixed Team Silver with Alex Wise and gold in the women’s team with Penny Healey and Jaspreet Sagoo.
She also won individual silver at the Birmingham 2022 World Games and the World Archery Field Championships 2022 and silver as part of the women's recurve team at stage 4 of the World Cup.
Pitman has juggled her archery career with her education, studying history at Northumbria University, while she also featured on the first episode of BT Sport’ show It’s A Numbers Game.
At the 2023 European Games in Poland, Pitman won gold in the women's recurve team alongside teammates Penny Healy as Jaspreet Sagoo.
She is currently ranked world number 3.
