Worthing man sentenced as part of global investigation into online paedophile ring

A man from Worthing is among over 300 people arrested globally as part of a multi-agency investigation into a dark web site for paedophiles, which contained over 250,000 'horrific' videos. Arrests were made in 38 countries following the discovery of Welcome To Video, a website run from South Korea where users had made more than one million downloads. The National Crime Agency (NCA) - which has been part of the investigation - said the website monetised the sexual abuse of children and was one of the first to offer 'sickening' videos for sale using a cryptocurrency bitcoin. In the UK, seven men have been convicted following the 337 arrests, the youngest of which in this country is Daniel Farrar, 21, from Worthing. The NCA said he pleaded guilty to several counts relating to indecent images of children, and was given a number of community penalties as well as being placed on the Sex Offenders Register. Nikki Holland, NCA Director of Investigations, said: "Dark web child sex offenders - some of whom are the very worst offenders - cannot hide from law enforcement. "They're not as cloaked as they think they are, they're not as safe as they think they are. "The NCA is relentless in pursuing them and we have specialist capabilities, which we use for all UK law enforcement, to unmask them and help take down sites like Welcome To Video. "I'm immensely proud of the role we played in catching some very depraved and dangerous global offenders." The investigation into the online paedophile ring was sparked by the NCA during an initial investigation into geophysicist Dr Matthew Falder. Falder is currently serving a 25-year-old prison sentence. The NCA said the most 'heinous' UK case to come from the website resulted in Kyle Fox, 22, being jailed for 22 years in March. Fox, from Surrey, admitted 14 charges against a five-year-old boy including seven rapes and five charges of sexual assault against a three-year-old girl. The operator of the site in South Korean, Jong Woo Son, 23, was jailed for 18 months in his home country and is also charged with nine counts in the US relating to the running of the website. The NCA said three children in the UK were safeguarded from the cases.
