Grief Play Cafe was launched late last year with a view to creating a safe space for grieving families to find support.
Kayla Shepherd, whose husband Andy sadly passed away in 2017, opens the cafe in Worthing one Sunday morning every month. She told More Radio:
"The charity was set up as when I lost my husband as there was nowhere to access support on a regular basis for my daughter Millie who was 7 at the time.
"We just needed to be around others who were navigating their own grief journey so we didn't feel so alone.
"We have two rooms, one set up with educational play resources and another room where our cafe is."
"Andy’s Angels means that my husband’s memory can live on and help and support other children and their families navigate their own grief journey."
According to Kayla, the cafe sessions have been very popular.
"It is lovely to see the growth in the charity as we welcome new families to our café each month.
"We have some families that attend every month and we have other families who drop in when they feel they need the support. Grief has no time limit, neither does Andy’s Angels Grief Play Café."
Andy's Angels is run by funding and donations and is free to attend. The next cafe session is on February 27th, 10am - 12.30pm.
