Young person dies after being struck by train between Wivelsfield and Brighton

A young man has died after being struck by a train between Wivelsfield and Brighton. Southern Rail said the man in his 20s was struck between the two stations last night (Tuesday, 28), shortly after 10.20pm. The lines were closed causing major disruption until 2.45am today (Wednesday, 29), with services back to normally by around 5am. British Transport Police said his death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner. A Southern spokesperson said: "Tragically, a person was hit by a train between Wivelsfield and Brighton last night. "We notified passengers of disruption to services shortly after 10.20pm and all lines were reopened by 2.45am this morning."

Southern added that they have a partnership with the Samaritans and the Railway Children, and passengers can choose to donate their Delay Repay compensation directly to these charities.
